2015 Congressional Art Competition
Posted by on April 28, 2015
On Monday, my office hosted a reception to announce the winners of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition for the First District, as well as to honor all of the students who submitted artwork.

The overall winner was Collin Schwiers from Elder High School.

His entry, a digital photograph entitled "Riding the Rails," will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside winning artwork from other congressional districts across the country.

Gabrielle Kraemer from Seton High School finished second.

Her artwork, "Still Life," will be displayed in my D.C. office for a year.

The Hamilton County Honoree was Hannah Bailey from Mother of Mercy High School.

Hannah's artwork, an acrylic monoprint of Findlay Market entitled "A Corner of the Universe," will be displayed in my downtown Cincinnati office for one year.

Our Warren County Honoree was Hayley Sledge from Dayton Christian High School.

Her entry, an oil painting entitled "Rainy Night," will be on display in my Warren County office for one year as well.

Congratulations to all of the students who submitted entries for the competition.  The overall quality of the artwork this year was outstanding.  Below are some additional pictures from the reception.

Week In Review
Posted by on April 20, 2015
As we wrap up another busy week, I thought I'd share a few highlights from recent meetings.

In D.C., I had an opportunity to meet with Canada's Consul General Douglas George.  Canada is Ohio's largest trading partner.

I also had a great meeting with representatives from the Ohio State Bar Association.

Here in Cincinnati, on Friday, I spoke to a group of convenience stores owners about numerous issues facing their businesses.

I also visited Assurex Health in Mason.  Assurex Health is using medical technology to help tailor prescriptions to individual patients.

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of presenting two local students with the Congressional Award for Service.

And on Monday, I spoke at a luncheon for an Ohio program that encourages local attorneys to provide pro bono legal services for veterans who otherwise could not afford an attorney.

Around the First District
Posted by on April 10, 2015
I always enjoy meeting with constituents throughout the First District.  Here are a few highlights from recent meetings.

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak to the Homebuilders in Springdale.

We also held a Military Academy Information Night at Lebanon High School.  Academy Night is a great opportunity for students interested in attending one of the U.S. Military Academies to meet with representatives from the Academies and get answers to any questions they may have.

Additionally, I had a great discussion with members of the Sharonville Chamber of Commerce ...

And a fascinating tour of Cincinnati, Inc.'s facility in Harrison.

Jim Cissell and the Delta Queen
Posted by on March 31, 2015
On Monday, Judge Jim Cissell was kind enough to stop by my Cincinnati office to share a couple of pieces of Delta Queen memorabilia.  As a strong supporter of the Delta Queen, Judge Cissell has offered to lend my office a Delta Queen painting and steamboat whistle (see picture below).  Both items will be on display in my office while we work to enact legislation to allow the Delta Queen to resume operations as an overnight passenger vehicle.

Many thanks to Judge Cissell.

It is always great to welcome constituents to our nation's capital.  Here are some pictures from recent meetings with Cincinnatians who made the trip to DC.

Last week, I met with local representatives of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

I also had an opportunity to talk with Greer Glazer, the Dean of UC's College of Nursing.

I had a great conversation with several folks from the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency.

And I finished the week by giving a Capitol tour to several eighth graders from Our Lady of Lourdes.
