Last week, the House of Representatives considered several budgets for the next fiscal year -- each of which represents a distinct vision for our government and nation. Let's take a look at just a few.
The President proposed a budget that spends more and taxes more. It would create $8.2 trillion in new debt and $1.1 trillion in new taxes. It grows government so much that when it was considered on the House floor, only two Democrats supported it. Needless to say, it failed to pass the House by a vote of 2 to 413.
The House Republican Budget, also known as the Path to Prosperity offers a positive agenda that would reduce spending, grow the economy, and renew America's promise for future generations. It accomplishes this by balancing the budget in 10 years (I'd like to see it balanced even sooner), fixing our complicated tax system, and protecting important priorities like Medicare and our national defense. This passed the House by vote of 219 to 209.
The Senate Democrats' budget.... Well, Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats didn't offer any type of budget for the next year.
Finally, the Republican Study Committee offered an alternative budget that would balance the budget even sooner, in four years instead of 10, by reducing wasteful spending. I had two of my legislative proposals included in this particular budget. You can watch me speak about both proposals below.
