Chabot Named Top Lawmaker in Fight Against Wasteful Spending
This week, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), a taxpayer watchdog, released its annual ranking of lawmakers' record on wasteful spending. In it, Rep. Steve Chabot was deemed a "Taxpayer Hero" and earned the highest ranking of any House legislator for his efforts to curb government spending.

Chabot has a strong record of voting against wasteful spending, and, as a result, has one the highest lifetime rankings of any Member of Congress. CAGW specifically noted two of Chabot's legislative initiatives during the 113th Congress.

The first was H.R. 2380, the Eliminate the MAP Act (H.R. 2380). This bill would eliminate the Market Access Program, a U.S. Department of Agriculture program, which spends $200 million annually to finance trade association's overseas travel and marketing expenses.

The second item noted by CAGW was H.R. 3589, the Eliminate the Commission to Nowhere Act. This bill would terminate the Denali Commission,  a federal agency in Alaska, established in 1965, that has received hundreds of millions in tax dollars to perform services already administered by other federal agencies. This project was even cited by the Obama Administration as being "wasteful" and "duplicative."
