Chabot Statement of the Firing of FBI Director James Comey
Congressman Steve Chabot (R-Westwood) on Wednesday released the following statement regarding the firing of FBI Director James Comey:
"The fact that FBI Director James Comey sometimes had Democrats mad at him, and other times had Republicans mad at him, probably means he was doing a good job, under very challenging circumstances. It is essential that the FBI continue to operate as an independent investigative body, free from any undue influence from the political branches of government. "The timing of the dismissal raises a number of questions, and the American people deserve a clear explanation, as well as a plan for handling the investigations which had been under Comey's direction. Most importantly, his replacement must have the integrity, experience and independence necessary to garner the trust of the American people."
