Chabot and Crowley Release Joint Statement on Violence in Burma

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH), senior Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Congressman Joe Crowley (D-NY), House Democratic Caucus Chairman, issued the following joint statement on the violence in Burma:

“We are horrified by the ongoing situation in the Rakhine State, Burma. In particular, with hundreds of thousands fleeing, we’re deeply concerned by numerous reports that Burma’s military is not exercising restraint with respect to the treatment of Rohingya civilians. This is quickly becoming a humanitarian crisis that the United States must take a leading role in to resolve. The United States should also send a firm signal to Burma’s military that this cannot continue by suspending any current and future military training in Burma.”
