Chabot Joins Bipartisan Push for Use of Defense Production Act AuthoritiesWashington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Chabot (R-Westwood) on Monday joined a bipartisan group of Members of Congress as an original sponsor of a resolution urging President Trump to take full advantage of the authority granted to the executive branch under the Defense Production Act. The resolution is intended to encourage increased production of personal protective equipment, as well as promise the President that Congress is prepared to provide the funds necessary to achieve that goal. “As coronavirus cases begin to spread rapidly across the country, we are in desperate need of personal protection equipment for our health care workers,” said Chabot. “Whether we are talking about protective masks and gloves, hand sanitizer and disinfectant, or even ventilators, we face, or will face in the very near future, shortages of critical emergency medical supplies. Solving such emergency supply constraints is exactly why the Defense Production Act was enacted. By acting now, we can alleviate the shortages some communities are already facing, while preventing shortages from occurring in other parts of the country.” Joining Chabot as original sponsors of the resolution are: Representatives Andy Levin (D-MI), Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), Katie Porter (D-CA), Don Bacon (R-NE), Dan Kildee (D-MI), Fred Upton (R-MI), Diana Degette (D-CO), Rodney Davis (R-IL), Ted Lieu (D-CA), Van Taylor (R-TX), Mikie Sherill (D-NJ), Bill Huizenga (R-MI) and Abigail Spanberger (D-VA). ###
